Simple
Spellcheck – This is a quick and simple way to improve a resume, and should be the last step a candidate takes before sending the document
Grammar – Consistent use of tense (preferably past tense), correct punctuation, etc., should be ensured
Formatting – The key here is consistency -- a maximum of two standard fonts used in a consistent manner throughout the document, conservative and consistent use of bolding and bullets, use of upper and lower case letters, consistent spacing from beginning to end. Do not use colored fonts or clip art

Rewrite your Professional Summary for each job for which you’re applying
Accomplishments and actions versus duties and responsibilities
Speak of what you contributed to the project, not what the project accomplished
Include quantitative data (time saved, money saved, effort saved)
How you exceeded expectations
Strive to get the Professional Summary, Skills Summary and the beginning of the Professional Experience section on the first page of the resume, so as to grab the attention of a person who may have only 30 – 60 seconds to devote to each in a stack of resumes
Our Preferred Format
Professional Summary – a one- to three-sentence overview of your career highlighting the skills and experiences relevant to the particular assignment at hand
Skills Summary – a comprehensive listing of the specialized professional skills utilized in your career – current skills listed first, relevant skills bolded if possible
Professional Experience – a reverse chronological listing, including verifiable employment dates (month and year), describing your contributions and accomplishments
Education and Certifications – list only accomplishments that can be verified
